Founded in 1984, the New York Women Composers has been advocating and promoting music written by women composers to redress the underrepresentation of women in the field of contemporary music. As one of the longest established composer organizations in the United States, our mission has been to increase awareness of music by women composers through performing, recording, networking, and mentoring opportunities. Our advocacy for equitable representation in the field is expanding the inclusion of women’s works in the contemporary concert and recording repertoire.
