The Robert Giard Foundation

PO Box 25
NY , NY 10113

The Robert Giard Foundation was formed in 2002 in order to preserve Robert Giard’s photographic legacy so that the full breadth of his work in several genres—the portrait, the nude, still life, and landscape—may be known and accessible to a growing audience.

The Foundation’s mission is fourfold:

  • To protect and preserve the entirety of Robert Giard's images and writing, including Particular Voices, his over 600 portraits of gay and lesbian writers.
  • To bring his work to a larger public through exhibitions, through acquisition of his photographs by museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions, and through the publication of his images and writings.
  • To promote the use of his work for educational purposes and support public programs and continued scholarship about queer literature in America and the gay and lesbian movement more generally.
  • To encourage projects by artists in photography, video, or film who are working in the subject areas of sexuality and gender identity in the broadest and most inclusive sense of those terms.
