Founded in 1983, Pax Christi Metro New York (PCMNY) is a region of Pax Christi USA, a member of the international Catholic peace movement. PCMNY enjoys the support of hundreds of members and friends throughout the boroughs and surrounding areas.
Some members choose to join one of the local groups affiliated with PCMNY. Local group meetings offer opportunities for prayer, faith sharing, study, and community action; they motivate and nourish members to be more actively Christian.
PCMNY works with parishes throughout the diocese of Brooklyn and the Archdiocese of New York, inviting them to become partners in building peace. We join in interfaith and ecumenical efforts for peace as well. And we work in the neighborhoods of our local groups, congregating as citizens dedicated to improving our communities.
Some of our regular activities include:
a Good Friday Way of the Cross to pray a contemporary Stations of the Cross,
witnessing to the suffering of Jesus then and now; an Annual Retreat on Christian nonviolence; a 40-Day Fast for Nonviolence; Nonviolent Conflict Resolution Programs for adults and teens; an Annual Fall Assembly on issues of social justice; a Peacemaker Awards Reception; and an Action Alert Network.
