Founded in 1927, The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) is the Soapbox and Tool box for New York State's nonprofits!
NYCON works to build the capacity of nonprofits and communities to enhance the quality of life in New York State. We provide a wide array of specialized technical assistance services, including legal and financial, to nonprofits of all kinds in a staff-based, multidisciplinary team model. NYCON also provides an array of group purchasing, insurance and employee benefits in the context of membership, helping to build a long term, multi-layered service relationship with member nonprofits.
Our mission-based activities are enhanced by two subsidiary corporations: Innovative Charitable Initiatives, Inc., and Council Services Plus.
Our Nonprofit Capacity Building Division provides a collective policy voice for the sector and serves as a crucial support and information provider through quality, cost-saving group purchasing and discounted programs, customized, comprehensive training and technical assistance programs, and the provision of fiscal sponsorship and nonprofit incubation.
NYCON is the only nonprofit association in the state, and perhaps, nationally, that provides a wide array of specialized technical assistance services, including legal and financial, to nonprofits of all kinds in a staff-based, multidisciplinary team model. Doing so in the context of membership, we build a long term, multi-layered service relationship with member nonprofits. We also work in close partnership with government (federal, state and local) and the private sector (community foundations, private foundations, and United Ways) to educate and directly assist their nonprofit constituencies.
NYCON provides its members a wealth of quality, cost-saving group purchasing and discounted programs (from insurance and employee benefits to payroll outsourcing and publication discounts).
NYCON is proud to be an active member of the National Council of Nonprofits, the National Association of Planning Councils, the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, and Governance Matters.
