Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service 333 East 115th Street New York, NY 10029 http://www.littlesistersfamily.org/The Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service, founded in 1958, is a nonprofit community-based organization that works with the people of East Harlem to address the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual dimensions of family health. Its home-based and center-based programs are designed to empower those who are most vulnerable and who have least access to the basic necessities of life, in the conviction that the entire community grows when individuals and families are affirmed in their own dignity.
LSA’s mission was first carried out through its core program, the Certified Home Health Agency. Over the years, programs have expanded in response to community needs. They now include the Advocacy Office and Emergency Food Pantry, the Family Support (Preventive Services) Program, the Early Childhood Program, the Community Life Program and The Sharing Place thrift store. Our programs are closely integrated, with frequent referrals among them. Most of our families are involved with more than one program.
LSA currently serves approximately 3,000 families a year, with an annual budget of $4.8. Its roots in the neighborhood, and commitment to building the larger community in partnership with families, enable the organization to observe new trends and respond flexibly to a changing environment. Consistent with our mission, no family or individual is ever turned away because their care is not reimbursable or because they cannot pay.
