Greater Brooklyn Health Coalition 885 Flatbush Avenue, 4th Floor Brooklyn, NY 11226 http://www.brooklynhealth.org
The Greater Brooklyn Health Coalition (GBHC) improves the quality of and access to healthcare in Brooklyn. We do so by building alliances within the public health sector and across ethnic, racial, religious, and socio-economic groups. Specifically, we address barriers to healthcare that exist for Brooklyn residents by: convening key players to develop policy recommendations; training health professionals with cultural and language-specific curricula; providing educational opportunities for residents; providing technical assistance and networking opportunities to agencies undertaking efforts to reduce barriers to care; and disseminating information through Health Happenings, a monthly newsletter, with a circulation of over 5,500 readers. GBHC also helped create the only online tool, HITE (Health Information Tool for Empowerment), for connecting people to free and low-cost healthcare and supportive services.
