The mission of the Rainforest Foundation is to support indigenous and traditional people of the world's rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfill their rights by assisting them in:
* Securing and controlling the natural resources necessary for their long term well being and managing these resources in ways which do not harm their environment, violate their culture or compromise their future; and
* Developing the means to protect their individual and collective rights and to obtain, shape and control basic services from the state.
What Your Donation Can Do
Rainforest Foundation-US supports many projects in Latin America, ranging from advocacy work in Guyana to helping the Shuar people of Ecuador demarcate their land. Here's an example of what your help can do:
$50 can pay the basic expenses of running the office of a local indigenous
organization for one month.
$100 can produce a map needed by indigenous leaders in Ecuador to
establish the legal right to their land.
$250 can pay for a community resource management workshop in Suriname.
$500 can cover the costs of a campaign meeting for communities in the
Ecuadorian Amazon organizing against the impacts of oil exploration.
$1,000 can provide emergency legal funds for the Indigenous Council of Roraima.
$2,000 can buy a desktop computer needed for the land titling work in Ecuador.
$20,000 can pay for a scholarship for an entire year for a young Yanomami leader.
