"BYMC helps girls become women. Everybody pushes you and they love you...BYMC helps you aim for everything...." -- Amy, a BYMC Member since 2006.
Amy shared this statement with me to convey her feelings about the impact BYMC is making in her life. She joined The Brooklyn Young Mothers' Collective (BYMC) when she was pregnant with her daughter. Amy was 19 years old, homeless, unemployed and had no high school diploma. Since her involvement with us, she has enrolled in college, secured employment and found stable housing.
BYMC is fueled by your support and I have deeply appreciated your past gifts and words of encouragement. You have helped BYMC come a long way since I launched it in 2004 at the Program for Pregnant Students. Motivated by a belief that the most effective intervention to break the cycle of generational poverty among young families is education, BYMC pushes disadvantaged young mothers to further their educational goals and succeed in college and the workplace.
Amy's words inspired me to consider: What it would take to grow BYMC's work so that we are able to reach more disadvantaged young mothers and their children?
Toward that end, I am pleased to announce that BYMC has launched Aim for Everything campaign to raise $100,000 during the next 12 months. Throughout 2010, Brooklyn Young Mothers' Collective will raise $100 from 1,000 supporters to support BYMC's transition from a "start up" to an "emerging organization."
I am asking you to contribut to BYMC's Aim for Everything campaign with a $100 gift to help BYMC serve more young mothers and their children. We are excited to harness the power of 1,000 individuals to impact our clients in a real and meaningful way.
Sincerely,
Benita Miller
Founder and Executive Director of the Brooklyn Young Mothers' Collective
