Sakhi for South Asian Women is excited to celebrate its 20th anniversary with gusto and style on Oct. 2, 2009 at the Prince George Ballroom. Talented filmmaker and long-time Sakhi supporter Mira Nair will serve as the evening's honored guest speaker.  In addition, the evening will include a powerful Sakhi program, delectable food by Devi, a live auction with a Sotheby's auctioneer, and incredible music by DJ Rekha!

Sakhi has celebrated its innovative work to end violence against women with six prior galas which included 400-600 guests. Known for its signature events, Sakhi reaches into diverse and connected communities. As a result of the power of Sakhi’s programs and its deep support amongst community & business leaders, government officials, and thought leaders, individuals and corporations alike have provided significant sponsorship in prior galas, enabling their support of Sakhi, brand, and message to reach a wide audience of like-minded individuals.

Sakhi’s transformative work reaches individuals, communities, and institutions through critical direct services, community engagement and giving a much-needed voice to ending violence in the community. Your investment enables Sakhi’s essential programs including:

*Crisis response in a time of increasing demand: Sakhi will respond to more than 700 new requests per year as well as conduct case management and economic empowerment workshops for 60 survivors per month.  In the last half of 2008, we responded to 15.6% more new pleas for help compared to the same period in 2007;

*Expert presentations at local & national venues and community campaigns in Queens and with faith communities;
*Innovative electronic media, such as Sakhi’s award-winning website, which is accessed all over the country and world and reaches an average of more than 17,000 user sessions a month; and,
*Strategic policy advocacy to help survivors get the support and justice they deserve from courts.
