Join Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) and
Saratoga PLAN for a bicycle tour through the scenic farmland that provides a
backdrop for the Saratoga National Historic Park
Tour de Farm is a supported bike ride organized by ASA and Saratoga
PLAN to bring people through the farmland that serves as an important scenic
backdrop for the Saratoga National Historical Park. The view from the Park is
relatively unchanged since the 1777 Battle of Saratoga, a turning point in the
American Revolution.
Tour
de Farm features two routes, a 15 mile loop and a longer 35 mile route. Both
rides begin at Hand Melon Farm, a fruit and produce operation which is in the
process of being conserved, and pass by a number of farms that have been
protected.
The
second stop for both rides will be Sunset View Farm heifer facility. From there the rides split. The short route
follows River Road to return to Hand Farm and the long route crosses the Hudson
at Stillwater and stops at the Saratoga Battlefield before looping north through
Schuylerville for the return.
The
ride will be supported by members of Cambridge Valley Cycling. Olde Saratoga
Bike and Boards will provide a complimentary safety check before the start.
There
will be delicious local food and refreshments at the finish and participants
will receive coupons for purchases at participating farm stands and businesses.
Tour
de Farm is
made possible by a grant from the Historic Saratoga-Washington on the Hudson
Partnership. Supporting partners include The Saratoga National Historical Park,
the Open Space Institute, American Farmland Trust and the towns and villages
along the route.
