About chashama
chashama adopts temporarily vacant properties, donated by their owners, and converts them into usable spaces for visual and performing artists. chashama then regrants these spaces for free or at heavily subsidized rates. This creative use of under-utilized space can revitalize vacant buildings, generate foot traffic, spur economic activity, and enliven neighborhoods.
Annually, chashama presents over 130 theater and visual art events in our various venues: visual artist studios, galleries, theaters, rehearsal halls, site-specific outdoor venues, and an artist retreat near Pine Plains, NY.
