Trinity's Services and Food for the Homeless was formed in 1986 by the local members of Trinity Lower East Side Lutheran Parish and its pastor the Rev. Robert Wollenburg. Prior to SAFH, Trinity was responding to the hungry and homeless, but they needed a separate 501(c)(3) (non-profit) organization to manage these activities. SAFH is closely related to Trinity, but functions separately with its own staff and board of directors.
