Parijat Desai Dance Company creates, performs and teaches an elegant hybrid of Indian classical and American modern/postmodern dance, which the New York Times has called a “seamless blending of the new and old.” As choreographer and artistic director, Parijat Desai brings together the sculptural lines, intricate rhythms and theatricality of Indian classical dance with the dynamism and conceptual experimentation of modern dance, creating new vocabularies that move across boundaries of tradition and culture. PDDC aims to communicate with audiences in a manner both sophisticated and accessible, reflecting the intersections of culture that we all experience, and challenging the notion of us/them.
