Sustainable Energy Transition (SET) has been launched in the summer of 2008 to help people throughout the US and beyond free themselves from an economically and environmentally crippling dependence on oil for our energy.
The increasing price of oil is causing economic hardship on people throughout the US and the world. If net importing countries like the US, China and India do not find alternative sources of energy for transportation, our standards of living may decline in the years ahead.
At the same time, the increase in oil’s price functions like a tax on the fuel that contributes the most to global warming. But if policymakers choose coal as the substitute to oil then coal’s higher carbon intensity will cause an increase in greenhouse gas emissions for the same amount of energy. So we need appropriate policies on local, state and federal levels to turn the current climate and energy crisis into an opportunity to usher in efficient renewables.
SET is dedicated to helping the public be informed citizen advocates and consumers through a daily blog published by ~5pm EST every day. We also plan to publish reports helpful for policymakers to help them make energy decisions that simultaneously mitigate the challenges of rising energy costs and climate change.
