http://www.calpullidance.orgCalpulli Mexican Dance Company's (aka Calpulli Danza Mexicana) mission is to teach and produce dance-based programming incorporating music and theater to promote the rich diversity of Mexican cultural heritage. To this end, the company produces professional performances, arts education programming, and community outreach activities. Most notably, the organization runs a donation-based children's dance program in New York City, reaching deep into the underserved immigrant community.
Through the arts, Calpulli serves wide range of audiences. Directly, it serves aspiring artists and students by providing access to experiences intructors of Mexican dance and fundamentals. It also provide professional development opportunities to aspiring teaching artists and performing/ touring opportunities to dancers, specifically Hispanic dancers. The following countries are represented in Calpulli's current roster of dancers: USA, Puerto Rico, Peru, Ecuador, Japan, India, and of course, very proudly- the majority of dancers hail from- Mexico.
Calpulli also serves children and families directly. Its donation-based program allows access to all families. The program is grounded on the values of inclusion, artistic exploration, team work, esteem building, identity formation, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.
Calpulli serves the New York City area as a whole- and with each year increasingly throughout the United States- as ambassadors of an important, growing immigrant, Mexican community. |
